Belated Diwali greetings to all friends and families in the global yoga community.
The past month has been a whirlwind. While attending a teacher training in Thailand, I received news that my mother had fallen seriously ill in India. I immediately traveled to Kolkata to be by her side, and I remain here as she recovers. Experiencing the advancements in India’s medical facilities firsthand has been a surprising comfort amid this challenging time.
As we grow older, we often find ourselves reflecting on the lessons from our childhood. These early experiences shape us profoundly, deepening our perspectives and helping us see the world with greater empathy and resilience. I apologize for converting some in-person workshops to virtual formats, but I’m grateful for the technology that allows us to stay connected and participate from afar when life’s unexpected turns arise.
Yoga, at its essence, means “union” or “unity.” In times of crisis, this unity within ourselves is especially crucial. Staying grounded and calm allows us to navigate challenges with clarity. This inner transformation doesn’t erase pain, but it does enable us to carry it with a sense of purpose and wisdom, integrating it into our lives rather than letting it overpower us.
Depression, too, can touch our lives in complex ways, rooted in everything from societal pressures and chemical imbalances to genetic predispositions. Yoga reminds us of the importance of self-care and awareness, helping us build resilience and cultivate a sense of peace within, no matter what we face.
In a world increasingly shaped by conflict and uncertainty, the call for peace has never been louder. As discussions around war and discord fill the global stage, it becomes essential to turn inward and seek unity within ourselves. Practicing yoga can uplift social values and foster a collective sense of compassion, resilience, and interconnectedness. Yoga teaches us that inner peace is the foundation for external harmony; it’s through individual transformation that we can begin to influence the world around us. When we cultivate peace within, we contribute to a spiritual transformation that transcends borders, reaching beyond personal practice to become a powerful force for global harmony.
I’ll continue to stay in touch during this time, and I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for all your prayers and well-wishes for my mother’s recovery. Your support means so much, and I look forward to reconnecting with each of you.
Love
Rajashree
